EXECUTIVE
SUMMARY
online-registries, Inc. (OLR) is a digital medical records company that
provides safe, secure, private, and affordable storage of vital personal
medical information, combined with the ability to access and share that
information with designated healthcare providers in an emergency, when
every seconds counts.
BACKGROUND
In the ongoing battle against escalating medical costs, individuals,
insurers and employers know only too well what unneeded and unwanted
medical measures cost. During emergencies, essential information often is
not available, resulting in misdiagnoses and delayed, unwanted,
unnecessary or improper treatment costing insurance companies, employers
and consumers hundreds of millions of dollars each year.
The National Center for Health Statistics reported that there were almost
114 million emergency room visits in 2003 or 40 visits per 100 persons.
Older Americans (over 75) have 65 emergency room visits/ 100 persons/year,
while 1 out of every 4 children (14 million) sustains injuries each year
requiring medical attention.
Health care costs in the United States will
constitute over 20 percent of our nation’s GDP and are expected to reach
$4.0 trillion by 2015.
(Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services)
A Robert Wood Johnson Foundation survey found that ninety-five percent of
physicians say they have witnessed serious medical errors, while an
Institute of Medicine study concluded that hospital mistakes might have
contributed to the deaths of 44,000 to 98,000 Americans annually.
Moreover, the new Commonwealth Fund study suggests that the 1999 Institute
of Medicine report may be only the tip of the iceberg in determining the
full extent of injuries from medical errors. The IOM report also estimated
that medical errors cost the Nation approximately $37.6 billion each year;
about $17 billion of those costs are associated with preventable errors.
About half of the expenditures for preventable medical errors are for
direct health care costs. A lack of timely and pertinent information can
only make this worse.

online registries is an operational business with an existing customer
base, has a proven management team, uses an established technology
platform and has gained industry recognition.
THE INTERNET
According to research data, almost 202 million Americans use the Internet
and growing at 2 million each month. 75% of Americans age 30-49 and 58% of
Americans between the ages of 50-64 currently go online. Senior (over age
65) Internet users now exceed 8 million or approximately one-quarter of
the senior population in the United States and their use of the Internet
has increased 47% since 2000. The Pew Internet and American Life Project
found that almost 70% of wired seniors visit the Web daily.
The company is already operational with four active sites addressing
critical health-related areas:
-
med proxy offers members the security of knowing that their wishes will
be respected even if they are incapacitated and unable to participate in
treatment decisions. Members with a medical proxy or health care power of
attorney, also known as advance directives, can register the information
with med proxy to make the name(s) and location(s) of their designated
agent(s) available to those with a need to know. Twenty four million
Americans already have advance directives, but the records are often
stored away in files inaccessible to physicians when most needed…in an
emergency.
-
senior records gives its members a safe, simple, secure and affordable
way to organize their medical histories. Tailored to the needs of seniors,
the site provides them a valuable tool by making information available to
designated caregivers and emergency medical personnel right away, whenever
and wherever it is needed.
-
kid records helps members protect their children against medical error.
It enables parents to document their children’s medical histories –
including information about allergies, illnesses, medications and special
needs. kid records is especially valuable for non-custodial parents, for
children in the care of others or for children who are away from home (
e.g. at school or at camp). In an emergency, physicians and other
caregivers can get the information they need to make the appropriate
treatment decisions when every second counts. kid records allows parents
to organize their child’s medical data in a portable and accessible
format.
-
med records provides a comprehensive system of medical record management
making an individual’s personal medical information, including family
histories, blood type, contact information and insurance information
available to those who need to know – immediately, simply and securely.
All of OLR’s products allow subscribers to control the input of medical
data, and to change and update the information at any time without
additional cost.
Information on all four existing websites is available to hospitals
accredited by the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare
Organizations (JCAHO), the nation’s leading organization for accreditation
of hospitals and healthcare organizations of all kinds.
The Company believes it is well structured to market existing products and
to develop innovative new products to fill both existing and emerging
markets. The platform concept is highly extensible.
While the Internet is the nature first phase for the platform,
OLR
anticipates extending the service to incorporate other digital media as
they become more popular and the service infrastructure becomes more
reliable, including web services and imbedded application logic to provide
“smart alerts” to extended communities via telephony and other wireless
devices.

THE PRODUCT
OLR’s growing family of sites is dedicated to providing access to personal
and medical information for individuals and their families. The
information entered into the system is controlled exclusively by the
individual(s) who have subscribed to the service. Access to the
information (read-only) is designated by the subscriber. Medical
facilities that are members of JCAHO may read the stored information.
Access by other third parties (caregivers, babysitters, school nurses,
camp medical personnel, etc.) are authorized and controlled by the
subscriber alone. Privacy and access to confidential information is
protected by state-of-the-art computer encryption technology.
-
med proxy is an Internet registry which permits individuals to identify
and provide contact information for their designated health care agent(s)
or surrogate(s). In an emergency, med proxy offers hospitals and
healthcare organizations the ability to access the proxy information,
learn the identity of the agent(s) and how to contact them.
A med proxy member will have the comfort of knowing that his or her wishes
will be honored in the event of an emergency and the caregiver will have
the security of knowing that the treatment being provided is consistent
with the patient’s wishes.
-
senior records provides a secure Internet service for senior citizens to
store and control records of their medical histories. With the increased
mobility of adults over the age of 60, and the higher probabilities of use
of medical facilities and other caregivers, access to secure and readily
available medical histories is essential to protect against medical
errors. The organizational tools that senior records offers its member,
especially those who travel, is invaluable.
senior records allows subscribers to control the input of medical data,
and to change and update the information at their discretion. Access on a
read-only basis is restricted to accredited healthcare facilities, and
other caregivers specifically authorized by the subscriber.
-
kid records provides secure Internet access to critical medical and
personal information on children to their parents, caregivers and
hospitals in emergency situations.
kid records is for all parents; those who face separation from their
children due to work, or have children in school/daycare/extra-curricular
activities/organized sports. Families who travel with children need the
access to the medical information recorded at kid records. It is equally
effective for those children who attend camps or schools.
Parents or legal guardians of children who are registered with
kid records
now have a source of secure information on the children's medical data.
Subscriber parents are the only persons authorized to enter the
information, and they can update or change information at any time at no
additional cost. Accredited member hospitals will have direct, read-only
access to kid records medical information. Parents may also authorize
other caregivers to have read-only access to the stored information.
Access to the information is strictly controlled by the parent
subscribers.
-
med records provides a comprehensive system of medical record management
making an individual’s personal medical information, including family
histories, blood type, medication, allergies, contact information and
insurance information available to those who need to know.
Only subscribers can enter or alter their data; hospitals may access this
data on a read-only basis.
The family of products from online registries is designed to meet the
multiple needs of all subscribers. The inaugural sites are simple, safe,
secure and affordable.
For each OLR site, there is an initial charge of $19.95 for registration,
which allows members to update or change their own proxy information
whenever they choose, at no additional cost. There is an annual charge of
$9.95.
THE MARKET
med proxy targets three separate groups: those who have an advance
directive/medical proxy (estimated to be 24 million by CNN/Time), those
who do not yet have medical proxies, and health care providers. Every adult should have a medical/health care proxy, regardless of age or
marital status. A medical proxy differs from a living will, which does not
appoint an agent or surrogate and addresses only end of life issues.
A proxy is especially important to those who travel away from home or live
alone. med proxy intends to approach this market through normal media
channels, website links, and partnerships with public and private affinity
groups. The public will be made aware of the need for proxies and of the
availability of med proxy, and encouraged to register. Most medical
facilities already require proxies for all in- and out-patient procedures.
senior records addresses the needs of those members of society who are
entering their senior years of life, most notably related to retirement
from their working careers. The active lifestyles of senior citizens, and
increased use of medical services argue for increased access to their
medical history information. The need for senior records is consistent
with the justifications for med proxy, and is clearly a companion product.
kid records is designed to help protect children against medical error by
providing secure Internet access to a child's medical information. The
under-24 year old segment of the population numbers about 75 million, and
is growing. In addition, parents are asking for increased access and
control of medical information concerning their children. Fourteen million
children sustain injuries each year requiring medical attention.
med records permits its members to enter their personal medical
information into a safe, secure, private and affordable environment where
it can be retrieved in the event of an emergency – immediately – when
every seconds counts…against you.
online registries has identified several factors which significantly
effect the market and has developed product offerings to respond to those
factors, which include:
-
powerful demographic changes
-
increased access to and use of computers
-
use of the Internet for electronic filing and retrieval of information
-
increased demands for personal control over medical decisions and
information
OLR believes it is strategically positioned to market existing products
and development innovative new products to fill both existing and emerging
markets.
OLR has four target market segment priorities:
1.) Health, life, and disability insurers. 2.) Hospitals, HMO’s and other acute care health providers. 3.) Large self- insured employers and employer consortia 4.) Affinity groups, as sponsors, affinity partners and “trusted reference
points”
to consumers.
CONCLUSION
online registries is an operational business that provides collaborate
digital medical records platform designed to provide safe, secure, private
and affordable storage of vital personal records combined with the ability
to access and share those records within a designated care-community in
case of emergency.
